With the larger project to reconstruct and improve the I-95/U.S. 322 Interchange on hold until construction funds are available, PennDOT is moving forward with replacement of the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) bridge over the CSX railroad and Bethel Road as well as improvements to the adjacent Bethel Road Interchange. These improvements will be constructed as Section CSX, the third phase of the currently under-construction U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) Improvement Project.
Section CSX is now progressing through the Preliminary Engineering stage of project development. During this stage, PennDOT, working with it's consulting engineers, will carry out environmental studies, develop alternatives for physical improvements to the bridge and interchange, and conduct the engineering necessary to properly evaluate the various alternatives and present them to the public.
Neighborhood meetings and a plans display will be scheduled. The purpose of these meetings will be to obtain feedback from the community on environmental resources and proposed designs. We'll utilize us322conchester.com to notify the public about upcoming community meetings and communicate our progress as we formulate plans to improve traffic movement and safety at the Bethel Road Interchange.
