With the larger project to reconstruct and improve the I-95/U.S. 322 Interchange on hold until construction funds are available, PennDOT is moving forward with replacement of the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) bridge over the CSX railroad and Bethel Road as well as improvements to the adjacent Bethel Road Interchange. These improvements will be constructed as Section CSX, the third phase of the currently under-construction U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) Improvement Project.
Section CSX is now progressing through the Final Design phase of project development. The project's environmental document, a Categorical Exclusion (CE), was finished in late 2019. During this phase, Right-of-Way (ROW) acquisition will get underway. In Final Design, PennDOT, working with it's consulting engineers, will complete construction plans and specifications, secure necessary environmental permits, and prepare a bid package to go out to prospective contractors. The project is tentatively scheduled to go to construction in summer 2021.
